Uncertainty: Being Textile is an immersive installation bringing together two large-scale film projections and three sculptural textile forms.
One projection shows lengths of skin-toned gauze gently moving in a breeze. Alongside it, Being Textile was made using an endoscopic camera travelling through the interior of a constructed textile sculpture. The camera moves continuously forward, drawing the viewer through an unfamiliar internal landscape of folds, fibres and cavities.
Enlarged through projection, this intimate journey becomes an environment that surrounds the viewer. The contrast between looking at textile from the outside and travelling through it from within shifts our sense of scale and familiarity.
Bringing film and sculpture together allowed Hannah to explore textile beyond its surface: not simply as something to be looked at or touched, but as something that might be entered and experienced from within.
